Confirmation

This is the Sacrament by which a baptized Christian – young person or adult – makes their own profession of faith in God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and commits to following Jesus Christ throughout their lives. During the service of Confirmation, the Bishop will ask the candidates to make their promises and confirm their faith. By the outward signs of the laying on of hands and anointing with the holy oil of Chrism, the Bishop prays that the Holy Spirit will strengthen those who are being confirmed, so that they may be faithful to their promise to follow Christ all the days of their lives.

Preparation for Confirmation will involve attending worship regularly. (Please see the appropriate pages on the website with details of the services and worship available both on a Sunday and during the week.) It will also involve attending a series of sessions which cover the basics of the Christian faith, and help the candidates think about their relationship with God, and also the promises and declarations they are about to make. Because of the serious nature of these promises, and the commitment that is to be made, candidates for Confirmation must be at least Year 6 in school or older.
